Established in 1962, Punjabi University is a government university. The university is the second university in the world to be named after a language after Hebrew University of Israel. The institute is located in Punjab and is UGC recognised. It has also been accredited by NAAC with an A+ grade. The renowned university in Patiala holds the 59th position in NIRF Rankings 2025 under 'Pharmacy' category.

A number of programmes are offered that cover a wide range of domains that includes Humanities, Engineering, Management, Law, Science, etc. These programmes are offered by the university at UG,PG and PhD levels. Courses like BSc, BTech, BCom, BCA, MTech, MBA, etc are the most popular choices at the university.
